本研究の目的は「国境を越えるメディア（衛星放送やインターネット）の利用は，国民としてのアイデンティティ形成にどのような影響を与えるのか」を考察することである。方法として、ロンドンとニューヨークで、日本出身の移住者を親に持つ「二世」の若者を対象に事例調査を行った。その結果、動画サービス（YouTube、ニコニコ動画等）やSNS（mixi等）の普及により、「二世」の「トランスナショナル・アイデンティティ」形成が促されていることが示唆された。
