AMPA型グルタミン酸受容体(AMPA受容体)の細胞内輸送に異常の起きるAP-4を欠損したマウスでは、不安様行動、および運動学習に異常が見られた。また小脳におけるシナプス可塑性に異常があることが明らかとなった。また、AMPA受容体がTARPとよばれるタンパク質を介して、他のアダプタータンパク質複合体である、AP-2およびAP-3Aにも結合することを明らかにした。興味深いことにこれらのアダプタータンパク質複合体とTARPとの結合はTARPのリン酸化によって制御されていることも明らかにした。
