加齢黄斑変性病態における網膜色素上皮細胞(RPE)の上皮間葉移行(EMT)様変化に着目し, その変化に関わる転写因子を解析した。酸化ストレス亢進モデルであるSOD1ノックアウトを用いたところ, 加齢にともなう網膜変性およびRPEの接着障害と形態変化を認めた。しかし, EMT転写因子の局在は明らかではなかった。一方, ヒト加齢黄斑変性での解析を試みたところ, RPEにおける転写因子Snailの発現亢進が加齢黄斑変性病態に関わる事を発見した。
