網膜へ到達する可視光のうち青色光により視細胞が障害され加齢黄斑変性の発症が誘導される可能性があることがこれまで疫学調査およびin vitroで報告されてきた。白内障手術により水晶体を摘出することで、低波長領域の光が網膜へ到達しうるが、in vivoでの影響はよくわかっていない。我々は、本研究の中で、新規眼内レンズ挿入マウスモデルを開発し、このモデルを用いて紫外線領域に加え可視光のうち青色波長領域(400-500nm)を抑制すると光障害から網膜が保護されることをin vivoで明らかにした。
