本研究では、視覚障害者が移動中に起こした事故やヒヤリハット事例を収集し、その原因を分析し、対策案を検討した。階段・段差やエスカレーター・エレベーターの事故防止策として検証した「バリアフリー・マーク」は、全国の150基のエスカレーターに敷設され、視覚障害者の安全環境づくりに寄与することができた。また、ハイブリッド車等の音の静かな車が視覚障害者の移動に及ぼす影響に関する研究成果は、具体的な安全対策に寄与することができた。
