様々な発生段階のマウス皮膚から真皮細胞と筋膜細胞を採取し表皮細胞と混合移植を行い、その際の再生細胞の局在、全細胞に対する割合を免疫染色で確認し、scid mouse背部皮膚全層欠損創への表皮真皮混合移植モデルを用いて皮膚再生能の相関性を調べた。その結果、胎仔の真皮細胞に相当する細胞は減少したが、成獣においても存在した。週令数が増加するとともにscid mouse皮膚全層欠損創への混合移植による皮膚付属器の再生率は減少した。ヒトでも同様の細胞は存在した。
