本研究では、母体加齢あるいは排卵後加齢による卵の質的低下に注目し、卵の遺伝子発現プロファイリングの変化を観察した。卵の質の低下には、酸化ストレスによるミトコンドリアの機能障害、DNA修復機能の低下など体細胞の加齢変化に共通したメカニズムの他に、DNAメチル化、クロマチン二次構造の変化、RNA修飾などに関わる遺伝子の発現変化を認めた。さらに、遺伝子発現プロファイル･データの多元的解析およびEST発現頻度の解析により、卵細胞にのみ特異的に発現する遺伝子をin silicoに抽出し、2つのマウス新規遺伝子ファミリーに注目して、発現および機能の解析を試みた。
