地域に根ざした特別養護老人ホームにおける終末期ケアモデルを開発するために、3施設4名の特養の看護師を対象に、入居サービスを受けている高齢者(認知症も含む)とその家族に対して実施されている終末期ケアについて、半構成的面接調査を実施した。その結果、特養で働く看護師の終末期ケアに対する考え方、役割、認知症高齢者とのケアの違いについて明らかにした。特養の看護師は、その人らしい最期のあり方を常に模索し、終末期ケアの充実を図っていることが、今回の調査研究から示唆された。そしてこの結果を踏まえ、地域に根ざした特別養護老人ホームにおける終末期ケアモデルの原案を開発した。
