ジェット等から放射される大気重力波について、数値実験及び理論解析による研究を行った。その結果、この過程は自発的な放射過程として、以下の特徴をもつことがわかった。(1)流れの非定常性が本質的な役割を果たす。(2)流れ(波のソース)の振動数が、コリオリ振動数(地球回転の効果)を上回った時に初めて、重力波は放射・伝播する。(3)基本的な実験設定では、重力波の遠方場の解析解が導出でき、数値実験の結果とも整合する。さらに、大規模な気候モデルデータの新解析手法を提案し、その有用性も示した。
