本研究では、ヒトパルボウイルスB19(B19)感染後に関節リウマチ(RA)を発症した患者を経験したことから、サイトカイン産生やそのシグナルの異常によってどのようにして自己免疫異常が起こるのか分子レベルの機序を解明することを目的としている。現在、サイトカイン産生を抑制する抗炎症機能をもつ細胞としては、抑制性T細胞(Treg)が中心的であると考えられている。しかし、サイトカインシグナルによるTregの発生、維持に関する制御機構はほとんど知られていない。そこで、サイトカインシグナルの制御因子であるSOCS1のTregにおける機能について解析を行った。その結果から、SOCS1がTregにおいてそのマスター因子であるFoxp3の安定性およびサイトカイン産生抑制に寄与することが明らかとなった。
