細胞表層にポリマーからなるシールド層を形成させ、さらに外側に種々のバイオアフィニティを提示させることにより多様な細胞からなる組織体を形成させた。次に組織再生を視野に入れた細胞の構造化に向けた表層改質条件の検討を行った。また、このアフィニティを利用して基板上に細胞を2次元あるいは3次元状に配列し、セルチップなどの技術への展開をはかるための基盤技術の確立を行った。また、リガンド・レセプター間結合を高め、細胞表層改質のために、リガンド固定化部位、光反応性部位、アフィニティ部位および解離性部位からなる多機能性ナノ分子(ポリマーナノツール)を作製した。これにより、細胞の移動性を光によって制御することができた。
