成長速度の遅い高分化腺癌ではFDG-PETは偽陰性になるが、C11-acetateは陽性所見を示すことを我々は既に臨床試験で確認した。しかし11C-acetate の欠点は11Cの半減期が20分間と短いため、半減期が2時間の18Fを標識した18F-acetateの合成精製を試み、その臨床応用の可能性を調べた。その結果、18F-acetateは11C-acetateと正常体内における動態が異なり、速やかに腎臓から膀胱へと排泄された。そのため18F-acetateは11C-acetateのアナログとしては不適格であることが判明した。別の研究として術前胸腺腫において11C-acetateと18F-FDG を行うことにより、両トレーサーの集積度より胸腺腫組織型を予測できることが判明した。
