先天性の腸管神経系異常疾患であるヒルシュスプルング病およびその類縁疾患に対して、マウスおよびヒトの腸管を用いて腸管神経の起源である神経堤幹細胞を分離、回収し、これをヒルシュスプルング病モデル動物に移植してその生着、遊走、分化の能力を検証した。また、病因を明らかにする目的で、同疾患患児の血液を用いて網羅的な遺伝子解析を行い、発症のメカニズムに関係する可能性のある関連遺伝子を探索した。
