本研究では16世紀のスペイン異端審問の事件を題材とした歴史小説、『ルクレシアの幻視』(1996)および『異端者』(1998)について研究した。1990年代に2編が発表された点に着目しながら、両小説が歴史研究とは異なる観点から事件の様相を読者に提示することで、異端審問の事例に新たな解釈を加えたこと、主人公が異端に至る過程でみられた家族関係の破たんを通して現代スペイン社会にも通じる普遍的な家族の問題を提示していることを明らかにした。
