従来法(骨髄細胞付着培養分離法)に比べ約120,000倍の効率でマウスMSCsを直接精製する方法を確立した。さらに特に、骨髄MSCsにおいてその一部が神経堤由来であることを突き止めた。また、これら純化したMSCsは近年報告されて再生医療への応用が期待されている人工多能性幹細胞(Induced pluripotent stem cells ; iPS cells)になりやすいということを明らかにした。光硬化性ゼラチンは低分子量化体に改良したことで硬化前は室温下においても適度な粘性を有し、操作性が向上したことにより様々な骨欠損状態に合わせた形態が容易に付与可能と考えられ、光硬化によって要求される機械的強度で形状は保持可能となった。
