本研究では0.7MV/cmの尖塔値電場強度をもつテラヘルツ電磁場パルスの実現に成功した。この高強度テラヘルツ励起光源(光子エネルギー約4meV)を用いて、半導体カーボンナノチューブの1eVのバンドギャップを超えた一次元励起子生成を観測することで、著しいテラヘルツ非線形光学効果を実証することに成功した。また擬二次元有機導体 θ-(BEDT-TTF)2CsZn(SCN)4サンプルの高強度テラヘルツ励起実験により、温度上昇効果では説明できない非平衡相変化を実験的に検証することにも成功した。さらに今後の高精度スピン物性変化のプローブに向け、高速・高精度にテラヘルツ波の偏光状態をプローブするシステム開発に成功した。
