本研究は、少子高齢化時代において予想される人手不足に対処するための方策としての外国人労働者受入れのインパクトを考察するものである。主として一般均衡論的分析を行い、①女性などの国内労働力の活用のほうが外国人労働者受入れよりも望ましい、②さらなる貿易自由化によってモノの移動を促進し、外国人労働力を間接的に活用することが望ましい、③定住型移民の受入れはプラスになりやすいが外国人出稼ぎ労働者の受入れはマイナスになりやすい、などの知見を得た。
