我々はCre-loxPシステムを用いて平滑筋細胞特異的(プロ)レニン受容体{(P)RR}ノックアウトマウスを作成し、血管平滑筋細胞における(P)RR/ATP6AP2の生理的役割について検討をおこなった。(P)RRノックアウトマウスの腹部大動脈は著明な線維化を起こし、血管平滑筋細胞の細胞死がその病態の一因と考えられた。実験の結果、(P)RRは細胞内オルガネラ内部を酸性環境に維持するVacuolar-H＋ATPaseを介し、正常な細胞機能維持に必須な役割を担う可能性が示唆された。
