我々は、喉頭癌、下咽頭癌及び子宮頸癌を検体として、組織・疾患特異的に発現するといわれているマイクロRNA(以下miRNA)の比較検討を行なうことで前癌病変を理解し、癌の発症、進展の機構を明らかにすることを研究目標とした。その結果、それぞれの癌において特異的で発現が上昇するまたは低下するmiRNAの候補を突き止めるに至った。一方、細胞実験では、頭頸部癌細胞株、下咽頭癌細胞株に、前述の候補miRNAを導入することにより、miRNAが細胞増殖へ与える影響について検討した。婦人科癌の候補miRNAにおける細胞実験及び比較までは遂行できなかった。
