ラット敗血症(盲腸結紮穿刺)モデルで(プロ)レニン受容体ブロッカー((Pro)rennin Receptor Blocker: PRRB)の投与実験を施行し, その有用性を検討した. PRRB群はcontrol群と比較して, 有意にその生存率を改善し, 血清サイトカインとHMGB1の上昇を抑制した. 免疫染色では, PRRB群で盲腸の漿膜面に浸潤している泡沫細胞の活性化プロレニン陽性率とマクロファージのHMGB1陽性率の数が有意に抑制された. これらの事象から, PRRBは敗血症の新たな治療薬としての可能性が示唆された.
