近年、図形やグラフなど様々な非言語的表現に基づく推論の重要性が注目され研究が行われている。このような推論研究においては、伝統的な論理学的分析とともに、非言語的な表現の持つ認知的な性質の分析が不可欠となる。しかしながらこれまでの論理学的研究および認知科学的研究では、図形やグラフ表現の静的な性質(表現レベルの性質)についての意味論的研究が中心であり、動的な性質(推論レベル・操作上の性質)についての証明論的研究は行われていない。本研究では、図形表現の動的な性質を分析するための証明論的な枠組みを導入した。またその証明論の枠組みにおいて、free ride(自動表現)と呼ばれる図形の認知的性質を、推論体系間の翻訳手法を用いて証明論的に形式化した。さらにその形式化に基づいて、オイラー図証明、ヴェン図証明と、通常の記号論理学における自然演繹証明との比較分析を行い、図形的証明の構造を証明論的に特徴付けた。
