治療のさまざまな人工物に対する人類学の比較的新しい関心が示しているように、生物学の数値と人間の価値観は、対照的に異なるものではなく、むしろ差異の連続体を成すのである。本研究では、こうした医療実践そのものにおける主体と客体の差異化の過程を記述・分析するために、糖尿病などの医薬品の臨床試験をめぐる、日本とハンガリーとの比較調査を実施してきた。その成果について国内外の学会で発表し、論文集や学術誌に掲載した。さらに、複数の共同研究との連携をもとに、2012年以降本プロジェクトの調査範囲をアジアの諸国に広げていくことが可能となり、比較研究としての人類学の方法論を再検討することが期待されている。
