ハプティック通信は遠隔地に触覚情報を伝送するための基盤技術である。本研究では、ハプティック通信における触覚デバイスの高度化およびネットワーク環境の多様化を考慮して、遠隔操作システムの制御系設計および評価を行った。遠隔操作システムとしては、1対1のバイラテラルシステムと1対多のマルチラテラルシステムを対象とした。また、ネットワーク遅延が制御性能に及ぼす影響を評価し、ネットワーク状況に応じた適切な制御系設計を実現するクラウド型ハプティック通信技術および高信頼ハプティック通信技術を提案した。
