MSCの自己複製能を制御する分子機構としてWnt/Notchによる未分化性維持機構が提唱されている。研究では哺乳類の発生において自己複製と分化をコントロールしながら高次機能という複雑な組織構築に寄与することが知られる幹細胞の時間空間的な制御に関わるWnt, Notch, シグナルを可視化することにより、Wnt/Notchがどのように役割を分担し、あるいは他の分子と相互作用し、自己複製に関わっているのかを解析することで、MSCの自己複製および細胞系譜決定機構を明らかにする試みを行った。
