われわれは、環境保全技術のCO2負荷計算の一環として、化石燃料を使用しない未来型の大規模発電システムである「宇宙太陽発電衛星(Solar Power Satellite；SPS)」のCO2負荷を計算してきた。しかし、新しいSPSシステムが提案されるたびにCO2負荷計算を行ってきたことから、CO2の評価手法や評価データベース、および想定等が厳密には統一されていなかった。また、SPSの評価基準も、1990年代後半から本研究が開始されたこともあり、CO2負荷計算が中心であった。したがって、われわれは、経済統計のなかでも工学技術と親和性の高い産業連関表を利用する方針を維持しつつ、未来技術であるSPSシステムのCO2負荷とエネルギー・経済評価を総合的統一的に整理することを試みる。本稿は、その前段として、CO2負荷とエネルギー評価に焦点を絞り、SPSシステムの特性を吟味した。その結果、構造タイプの異なるSPSシステムが提案されているとはいえ、「宇宙で発電した電力を地上に送り、利用する」という発想にもとづくならば、その発電システムの単位あたりCO2負荷は、ほぼ2桁（g-CO2/kwh）であることを再確認し、また、エネルギー評価の結果も、エネルギー収支と回収期間の計算結果を見る限り、良好といえることも確認された。
