本研究では, 主に2つの成果を出した. 1つは, 振幅変調された高周波振動に対する人の知覚特性を明らかにしたことである. 皮膚が線形弾性体として働いていても, 触覚受容器に半波整流のような非線形性があることを示した. もう 1つは, それを応用した触感提示手法を提案したことである. 2つの振動子から異なる周波数の高周波振動を同時に皮膚に与えることで, 皮膚上で振動を加算し, 振幅変調振動(ビート振動)を知覚させられることを示した.
