本研究ではまず、世界各国の観光統計や経済センサス等、地域経済と密接に関わる統計調査について情報収集を行い、日本の地域経済統計の課題を明らかにした。その上で、観光消費のように、他地域での財・サービスの購入によって発生する交易に着目し、従来の日本の地域統計では把握することが困難であった地域観光売上額の推定手法を開発した。更に、サービス交易の正確な描写を目的とした都道府県間産業連関表を作成し、地域間の交易が地域経済に及ぼす影響の大きさを明らかにした。
