昆虫忌避剤DEETや、ピレスロイド系の防虫・殺虫剤は家庭・地域において日常的に使用されている。これら化合物は化学物質過敏症や炎症性疾患発症への関与が考えられているが、その詳細な作用機序については不明である。DEETは、ラット好塩基球性白血病細胞株RBL-2H3細胞での抗原依存性脱顆粒に対し抑制作用を示す一方、持続性のERK活性化を示した。ピレスロイド系化合物のアレスリンは、抗原非依存に脱顆粒とERK活性化を引き起こした。また、これら化合物は、ヒト肺胞上皮由来A549細胞においてサーファクタントタンパク質SP-Aの発現を増強し、ERK活性化も引き起こした。 DEETおよびピレスロイド系化合物は、細胞のシグナル伝達系に影響し、免疫応答に関わる細胞機能を修飾することが示唆された。
