トラップポテンシャル中のフェルミ原子気体のBCS-BECクロスオーバーを理論的に研究、空間的非一様性により、超流動秩序パラメータが発達したガス中心部の周囲に擬ギャップが支配的な領域が存在、その外側に自由フェルミ気体的な領域が取り囲むという殻構造が出現することを明らかにした。この構造を加味することで、光電子分光スペクトル、局所圧力の実験結果を定量的レベルで説明できることを示した。また、温度、相互作用強度、ガス中心部からの距離に対するフェルミ原子ガスの相図を完成させた。
