マウス心臓、四肢の発生における転写因子Hand1、Hand2の組織特異的な相補性について、Hand2をHand1で置換した遺伝子操作マウスを用いて検討した。胎生期の右心室形成過程においてHand1はHand2に対して遺伝的相補性をもつが、前肢発達過程においてはHand遺伝子間の遺伝的相補性がなく、Hand2が前肢発達に必須であることが明らかになった。これらのHand遺伝子の組織特異的な相補性は、ヒトの先天性心臓及び四肢奇形の成因解明の端緒になると考えられた。
