口腔癌に対して樹状細胞(DC)ワクチンが効果的である事を報告してきた。ある種の抗癌剤が癌患者の免疫環境を改善し癌ワクチンの効果を増強する事も明らかになった。本研究にて、口腔癌の標準治療薬5-FU等がDCに発現する免疫抑制因子PD-L1, CTLA4, SOCSs等を制御し、DCワクチンの細胞傷害性T細胞(CTL)誘導能を増強させる事、経口5-FU製剤S-1とDCワクチンン併用療法が強い抗腫瘍効果を示す事を明らかにした。この研究結果は標準治療無効の難治性口腔癌患者に対する新規治療法の開発に大きく寄与すると考えられる。
