心臓の心外膜側へのアプローチは心臓再同期療法やカテーテルアブレーションにおいて有用であり、将来、幹細胞治療なども開胸手術を必要とせず可能になることが予想される。そこで、様々な内視鏡を心嚢腔での操作し、画像情報の精度、安全性を評価した。結果、安全に鮮明な心嚢腔内の画像を得ることができ、細胞移植、ペースメーカーリード植込みなどの小手術を合併症なく施行できた。低侵襲心嚢内視鏡手術は様々な心臓病治療に応用できる非外科的手術となり得る可能性が示された。
