現在の半導体技術を支えるバンドエンジニアリングは、組成制御やドーピングなどのプロセス時で導入されるため、一旦デバイスを作製すると、外部から変調することは難しい。本研究では、外部変調が可能な次世代のバンドエンジニアリング材料として、擬一次元構造を持ち機械的特性に優れているカーボンナノチューブ(CNT)に注目し、微細加工技術を用いて一本のCNTへの歪印加素子を開発し、バンドギャップの変調に成功した。
