マイクロサテライト遺伝子マーカーを用いて3倍体親子鑑定を行い, 分子レベルでゲノムが混合していることを明らかにし, 「3倍体は有性生殖ができない」と言う常識を覆し, 3倍体でもゲノムが混合して次世代を作っていることを示した. さらに, 雄性生殖細胞では第1減数分裂前期で既に2倍体になっているが, 雌性生殖細胞の第1減数分裂前期では2価の染色体と1価染色体が共存する3倍体の状態であり, 雌雄で染色体の挙動が異なることを発見した.
