ユーザにモノやサービスを「使ってみたい」と感じさせる動機づけは、内発的動機づけに分類される。本研究では、心理学的知見に基づいて「ユーザは自分の内的な特性と適度にずれた特性を持つモノやサービスに対して、利用に対する動機づけが誘発される」という仮説モデルを立て、実験的検証を試みた。具体的には、ミュージアムでの情報提供サービスを適用事例とし、それを被験者に体験させた際の観察的データ及び主観的データを検討した。被験者の体験中の行動、心理、生理における各反応の分析から、被験者の内的な特性と適度なずれを持つ情報を提供した場合、被験者の内発的動機づけが促進されたと意味づけられる結果が得られた。本研究では、心理学理論をサービスデザインの一手法へと発展させることを目標としたが、その第一段階として有用な示唆を導き出すことができた。
