カイコTud(BmTud)は、BmSpn-E及びSiwiが複合体を形成することが判った。BmSpn-EをRNAiで消失させた細胞では、piRNAが減少し、カイコPIWタンパク質であるSIWIへpiRNAがloadされなくなることが判った。さらに、BmSpn-E複合体には、piRNAと結合していない空のSiwiが含まれていることが判明した。これは、piRNAがloadされる前のSiwiがSpn-Eと結合していることが考えられる。つまり、BmSpn-EはSiwiへpiRNAをloadするために必要な因子であることが示唆された。
