本研究により、漢方方剤に含まれる厚朴に含有されるhonokiolが新規RXRアゴニストとして、様々な核内受容体アゴニストによる作用を増強する機能を明らかにした。結果として、honokiolはヘテロダイマーパートナーアゴニストと共存することにより、ABCA1やGLUT4のmRNA発現誘導を大きく増強する作用を有していることが明らかになった。さらに、honokiolは動脈硬化症やメタボリックシンドロームに有用な作用を有していることが明らかとなった。
