網膜色素変性症では進行性に重度の視力障害をきたしうるが、有効な治療法は確立されていない。本疾患では、光に暴露すると増悪しやすいことが知られているが、光による網膜障害のメカニズムには未だ不明の点が多い。そこで今回、光障害による視細胞死のメカニズムに関し、酸化ストレスの観点から研究した。そのために抗酸化剤であるルテインを投与した際の、光暴露による網膜障害の予防効果を解析した。
