免疫機構は, 多くの要因が複雑に関係して成立している機能である。この免疫というシステムは, 場合によってはたった一つの異常でも免疫全体に異常が生じてしまう場合がある。その免疫の異常の一つとして数えられる疾病が, 関節リウマチ(Rheumatoid arthritis)である。免疫異常は大きく, 免疫不全, 過敏症, 自己免疫疾患の3種類に分ける事が出来るが, 関節リウマチは, この中の自己免疫疾患に相当する。自己免疫疾患とは, 免疫が自己の細胞をも攻撃し始めてしまう疾病の総称である。関節リウマチは, 関節部に慢性的な炎症や痛みを引き起こす疾病であり, これは異常な自己免疫が関節を攻撃する事によって生じる。そして現在, この異常を引き起こす原因として炎症性サイト力インと呼ばれるものが注目を浴びている。本研究では, この炎症性サイト力インの一種であるIL-6(Interleukin-6)に着目し, 調査を行った。また関節リウマチの他に, がん細胞の特異的な代謝にも着目した。がん細胞は通常の細胞とは異なる代謝方法でエネルギーを生産している事が知られている。そこで, ヒト膵臓がん細胞Panc-1から測定された時系列代謝物デ一夕を用いて, がん細胞における特異的な代謝の研究を行った。
