オイル産生微細藻類の中で, Chlorococcum oleofaciensは成熟した細胞が多量の脂質を蓄積するため, バイオ燃料の生産に向けて有用な種であると考えられる。卒業論文ではこの種の分子系統学に基づく分類の再検討と, 脂質蓄積時における代謝物の調査について報告している。先行研究では, Cc. oleofaciensの異名を持つ種として6種が指摘されているが, この異名間係については分子系統学による検証が行われておらず, 種の範囲の再検討が必要である。そこで本研究では, Cc. oleofaciensとその異名とされた種の正統株, およびこれらと近い18S rRNA配列を持つ株について, 18S rRNA遺伝子系統解析, ITS1およびITS2 rDNAの二次構造比較, 形態観察に基づき分類の見直しを行った。その結果, これらの株は5種に再分類された。また, Cc. oleofaciensの多量の脂質蓄積が, 解糖系とクエン酸回路に対して与える影響を明らかにするため, Cc. oleofaciensと選抜した脂質蓄積量の少ない株を窒素栄養欠乏下で培養し, 脂質蓄積開始時と終了時の代謝物量をキヤピラリー電気泳動-飛行時間型質量分析計(CE-TOFMS)を用いて測定し, 比較した。
