研究代表者は, 高齢白内障患者200例以上を対象として健康指標として重要である4メートル歩行速度と睡眠の質(ピッツバーグ睡眠質問票)と生活の質(NEI-VFQ25)を術前術後測定した。その結果, 術後2か月, 7か月ともに術前と比較して有意に増加もしくは改善していた。以上から白内障手術により視機能以外にも全身的健康指標が改善することが示された。これらの結果を3編の英文論文と数々の和文雑誌, 国内外の学会で発表した。 Gait speed and sleep quality are health indices related to longevity and mortality. We measured sleep quality, quality of life, and gait speed before and after cataract surgery to evaluate the efficacy of the procedure on systemic health. The study was conducted on more than 200 cataract patients undergoing intra-ocular lens implant surgery. Patients were evaluated using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire 25 (VFQ-25; vision-related quality of life) before and then 2 and 7 months after surgery. Four-meter gait speed was also determined. Significant improvements were noted in PSQI, VFQ-25, and gait speed. Our results indicated cataract surgery was effective on systemic health indices in addition to visual restoration. We published our results in three international journals and number of Japanese journals and meetings.
