古代ギリシアにおける「正義」の理念を, プラトンの正義論に焦点を当てて西洋古典学, 古代哲学の分野から総合的に検討した。研究メンバーは国内外での多くの学会で発表し, 欧文と日本語で多数の論文, 研究書の公刊を行った。とりわけ2012年8月にイギリス・オクスフォード大学で同大学の研究者と共同開催した国際学会「自由と国家 : プラトンと古典の伝統」, 及び, 2014年4月に慶應義塾大学日吉キャンパスで開催した国際学会「プラトンとレトリック」では, 世界の研究者と研究主題について議論を交わした。こうした機会を通じて, 日本のプラトン研究が国際的な研究の場となり, またそれを活性化する牽引の役割を果たすことを示した。 This comprehensive research project of Western Classics Ancient Philosophy examined the concept of justice in Ancient Greek Civilization, by focusing on Plato's theory of justice. The project members read many academic papers at international conferences inside and outside Japan each year, and published many articles and books both in Japanese and English. In particular, we organized the international conference "Freedom and the State: Plato and the Classical Tradition", in Oxford, UK, in August 2012, and the international symposium "Plato and Rhetoric", on the Hiyoshi Campus of Keio University in April 2014. At both conferences, we provided important opportunities of discussing this topic with scholars from all over the world. With these achievements, the project has shown that the Platonic studies in Japan have established a platform for international academic activities in this field.
