固形癌の癌幹細胞に関する知見が蓄積され, 腫瘍生着能や抗癌剤耐性能の亢進など, その性質が明らかになるにつれ, 癌幹細胞を標的とする治療戦略が注目を浴びている。しかし, 現状では概念だけが先行し, この治療戦略が本当に有用であるか否かについての基礎的な知見は未だ得られていない。本研究では, 任意に細胞死を誘導する系を構築してこの細胞から癌幹細胞分画を取り出し, 野生型細胞由来の非癌幹細胞と混合してマウス異種移植を行うことで, 擬似的に癌幹細胞を標的とした治療法を構築し, 本治療戦略が実際に有用か否かに関する基礎的知見を得る事を目的とした。 Research has shown that cancer cells are not all the same and there can be a variety of types of cells. The stem cell theory of cancer proposes that among all cancerous cells, a few act as stem cells that reproduce themselves. In this view, cancer cells that are not stem cells can cause problems, but they cannot sustain an attack on our bodies over the long term. There is a treatment strategy to kill cancer stem cell for overcoming breast cancer, and many researchers study in the world wide. Nobody, however, have a concrete evidence if the strategy is one of the effective treatment against cancer progression. The aim of this study introduce the confirmation of effectiveness of the strategy attacking cancer stem cells in breast cancer treatment.
