マイボーム腺機能不全(MGD)はドライアイの主因であり, 患者数が多いにもかかわらず有効な治療法が確立されていない。我々は, 活性型ビタミンD3がMGDの治療薬になるかどうかを研究の目的とした。動物実験において, 活性型ビタミンD3の眼瞼塗布治療が眼球や眼周囲組織, 全身臓器における副作用を起こさないこと, MGD動物モデルでMGDの改善を誘導することが明らかとなった。また, 臨床応用を行い, MGD患者におけるMGDの病変の改善をきたすことを証明した。活性型ビタミンD3はMGDの治療法となりうることが明らかとなった。 Meibomian gland dysfunction(MGD) is a one of the causative conditions of dry eye diseases. We investigated the safety and efficacy of active-form of vitamin D3 (aVitD3) for MGD. Investigations with MGD model animals revealed that application of aVitD3 was not caused any adverse effects on eye balls or other organs. Also, the application of aVitD3 on eyelid in MGD model mouse revealed the improvement of MGD. Furthermore, we applied aVitD3 onto MGD patients, revealing that aVitD3 improved clinical parameters in MGD patients. The applciation of aVitD3 is one of the treatment regimens for MGD.
