本研究は東南アジア諸国におけるネイティヴィズムに関する比較分析である。2017年度はインドネシアとミャンマーにおけるネイティヴィズムの表象と実体に関する文献調査および現地調査をおこなった。ネイティヴィズムとは, ①生まれながらの特性を重視する考え方であり, ②それが生来の土地と結びつく傾向をもち, ③そのためにあとからやってくる移民や外国人(異国人)に対する非寛容あるいは排除の論理となり, ④時にはその社会的な意識が政策に反映されて移民や難民の排除となることもある。このためにネイティヴィズムはナショナリズムの亜種として捉えることもできる。文献調査では, 東南アジア諸国の枠を越えて, 欧米諸国において存在し, 時に顕在化するネイティヴィズムに関する歴史研究および政治学的・社会学的な研究にも目配りをした。これは, ネイティヴィズムの形成, 認識形態および発現形態の一般的なパターンを抽出する作業である。その結果としてネイティヴィズムには, ある国家におけるマジョリティが存在している場合, そのマジョリティが持つようになる政治的, 社会的, 経済的, 文化的, 宗教的などの危機感を反映して形成されるというメカニズムを有することが明らかになった。今回調査をおこなったインドネシアとミャンマーでは, 特定の「外国人」に対する差別・排除意識が存在する。インドネシアではイスラム教徒がマジョリティであり, 華人に対する差別・排除意識, ヒンズー教徒と地域に対する差別意識がある。それに対してミャンマーでは, マジョリティである仏教徒がイスラム教徒ロヒンギャに対して排除意識を持っている。いずれの場合もマジョリティの社会的な保守化と宗教的な脅威を助長する言説が, ネイティヴィズムを形成する要因として指摘することができる。 My research is the comparative study of nativism in Southeast Asia. For the sake of comparison, I conducted my field research in Indonesia and Myanmar. Generally, nativism is a race-based animus toward immigrants. My literature research revealed that nativism has been formed and developed in many countries and regions when the majority feel insecure in political, social, economical, cultural and religious sense. Nativism is the majority's consciousness and attitude towards the minority or foreigner(s). It is in a sense a form of nationalism. Both Indonesia and Myanmar have the majority's nativism against particular "foreign" elements. In Indonesia Muslim majority show their nativism against ethnic Chinese, and Hindu dominated region and its people, whereas in Myanmar Buddshist majority is antagonistic against Muslism Rohingya. In both cases nativism reflects the majority's social conservatism and religious insecurity that have developed in the last two or three decades.
