インターネットの普及および高速大容量化, モバイル端末の普及は, 海外に移住したディアスポラの人々の母国メディア利用に大きな変化をもたらしている。母国から遠く離れた移住地においても, ディアスポラの人々は日常的に母国のニュースをチェックし, ドラマを視聴し, SNSで母国にいる人々と連絡を取り合っている。そしてこのような母国メディア利用は, ディアスポラのアイデンティティや移住国社会への適応, 母国との関係, 時間や場所感覚などへ少なからず影響を与えている。
本研究では, 韓国から最も遠い場所の一つである南米アルゼンチンの首都, ブエノスアイレスに移住した韓国系ディアスポラの人々が, 韓国のメディアをどのように利用し, その利用からどのような影響を受けているのかを明らかにするために, 現地調査およびインタビューを行った。
アルゼンチンへの韓国系移民は, 1960年代に始まった。1980年代大きく増え, 90年代にはアルゼンチンの経済危機のため減少したが, 今でも23,000人余りが居住している。最初は農業移民であったが, 現在はそのほとんどがブエノスアイレスで衣類の製造・流通業に従事している。現地調査は, その産業の拠点となっている町アベジャネーダで行われた。
具体的には, アルゼンチン中南米韓国文化院行政担当官, ハングル学校長および教師, アルゼンチン韓人会会長および役員, アルゼンチン韓国学校長および教師を訪ね, 韓国系移民コミュニティの特徴や最近におけるメディア環境の変化が移民社会にもたらしている影響について話を聞いた。
また, 移民1世, 1.5世, 2世を含む韓国系ディアスポラを対象にインタビューを実施し, 世代によるメディア利用パターンの違いやエスニック・アイデンティティ, 母国と移住先に対する認識や将来設計など様々な側面について話を聞いた。
ブエノスアイレスの韓国系ディアスポラは, これまで調査を行ってきたカナダやオーストラリアなどにおけるディアスポラに比べ, 移住先での生活の目標や様子が大きく異なっており, これが母国メディアの利用を規定する重要な要因の一つになっていると考えられた。そしてこれには, アルゼンチンという国, ブエノスアイレスという場所の地理的要因も関わっていると思われる。メディア利用行動の研究ではこれまで, 利用者が置かれている地理的環境はほとんど考慮されて来なかったが, 本研究を通じて, 今後, 特にディアスポラの母国メディア利用の研究においては, 地理学的視点からの分析が必要であることを確認した。
Diffusion of the Internet and mobile terminals have made a big change in the use of homeland media of the diaspora who moved out of their home country. People of diaspora routinely check the homeland news, watch dramas, and keep in touch with people who are in their home country with SNS, even in host countries far away from their home countries. And such homeland media use has influenced diaspora's ethnic identity and adaptation to host society, relationship with their home country, and the perception of time and place to a certain extent.
In this study, it is investigated by a field survey and interview that how Korean diaspora who immigrated to Buenos Aires, the capital city of Argentina, one of the furthest places from South Korea, uses Korean media and how they are influenced by the homeland media use.
Korean immigration to Argentina began in the 1960s. It increased greatly in the 1980s and declined due to Argentina's economic crisis in the 1990s, but still, 23,000 people reside in. At first, it was an agricultural immigrant, but now most of them are engaged in the manufacture and sales of clothing in Buenos Aires.
Specifically, Korean Cultural Center administrative officer, Hangeul school director and teachers, the president of local Korean association, the principal of Korean school and teachers were interviewed on characteristics of the Korean immigrant community and the recent changes brought to immigrant society with the transition of the media environment. In addition, we conducted interviews for Korean diaspora including Immigration Ist, 1.5st, and 2nd generation, and made a comparison with various aspects such as differences in media usage pattern, ethnic identity, recognition of home and host societies and future design.
Compared to Korean diaspora in Canada and Australia, which have been investigated so far, those in Buenos Aires have very different goals and situations of living, which is one of the important factors stipulating the use of homeland media. And the geographical factors of Argentina or Buenos Aires seem to have to do with the situation. In the research on media use behavior, the geographical environment in which the users are located has hardly been taken into consideration, but through this research, especially in the study of homeland media use of diaspora, the geographical analysis is confirmed as a necessary task.
