本研究はアフロキューバ宗教の一つサンテリーアにおける儀礼太鼓(バタ)奏者のライフストーリーを聞き取ることで, 太鼓奏者集団や太鼓の系譜, 彼らの信仰の実践を明らかにすることを目的としている。2017年3月には本研究の事前調査を行い, その結果に基づいた本調査を8月18日～9月5日の調査旅行で実施した。調査の中心となったのは, Adofoと呼ばれている, キューバで最も古いバタの一つに関わってきた人々へのライフストーリーの聞き取りである。ハバナ市内で7人にインタビューを実施したが, 多くの調査協力者がすでに高齢のため, 記憶は曖昧で情報も錯綜しており, Adofoの所有者と演奏者の明確な系譜を示すことは困難だった。しかし, 20世紀前半, 儀礼の母体となる組織が解体していくなかで, Pablo Roche, Miguel Somodeville, Jesus Perez, Nicolas Angarica, Pedro Aspirinaといった「伝統継承者」を中心に太鼓奏者のネットワークが再編されてきたという仮説が浮かび上がってきた。また, 彼らがいずれもAdofoに関与してきたこと, さらにこの太鼓の制作者であるAdofo本人が, 「アフリカの伝統」に忠実と考えられているMatanzas州の出身であることが, この太鼓の「正統性」の理由として指摘されていることもわかった。しかし, Adofo本人に関する情報はハバナ市内ではほとんど詳らかにならなかった。Adofoの系譜をたどるためには, Matanzas州での調査が今後の大きな課題となった。 Adofoの太鼓に関してはまだデータが不十分だが, インタビューを通して, キューバ革命前の貧困地区での生活のようす, そこでの生活からいかにしてサンテリーア信者や太鼓奏者になったのかについてたくさんの証言を得られた。これに関しては論考をまとめ, 2018年11月にハバナで開催されるキューバ文化人類学会で発表する予定である。 The object of this study is to trace the genealogy of los tambores batá, which are considered sacred by the practitioners of Santería, one of the Afrocuban religions, and to see how the network of the tamboreros (drum players) works to keep their tradition alive. I carried out a fieldwork from Aug. 18 to Sep. 5 in Havana City and Matanzas City, interviewing mainly the tamboreros who have worked with the set of tambores batá called Adofó, one of the oldest in Cuba, about their life stories.
