地球, 火星, 金星といった地球型惑星の大気は, 惑星半径に比べて薄い大気を持ち, その下端が地面で定義されるという共通性がある。これらの大気の大循環の特徴は, 地球大気と同様の力学的枠組を用いて記述されるはずであるが, 金星大気のスーパーローテーション, 火星大気のダストストームといった個々の現象を生む要因の理解は未だ不十分である。これまで, 地球シミュレータ上での地球大気の数値計算を目的に開発されたAFES(Atmospheric GCM For the Earth Simulator, GCM : 大気大循環モデルGeneral Circulation Model)を各惑星大気に適用するために改造し, 地球シミュレータを用いて初めて実現が可能な高解像度の数値実験を行うことで, 地球型惑星の大気の中小規模擾乱が大気大循環にもたらす役割を明らかにしてきた。今年度は, 各惑星の探査機がもたらす観測データを数値モデルに融合させるため, 新たにデータ同化システムを構築し, これを用いたテスト計算を行った。 AFESは地球大気の数値計算に特化したGCMであるため, 個々の惑星大気をすぐにシミュレーションできるわけではない。本研究では, まず金星をターゲットに, 放射過程, 雲物理過程, 境界層や乱流の地表面過程等のモジュールを開発し, テスト計算を段階的に行っている。また, 金星探査機「あかつき」の観測成果を有効に活用するため, データ同化システムを構築し, 欧州の金星探査機「Venus Express」の観測データを用いたテスト同化計算を行った。これらの成果は, 英文誌への査読論文3報, 国内外の招待講演3件等で公表を行った。また同時に, 地球型惑星の大気重力波の自発的放射過程についての研究も推進中で, 英文誌での成果公表のほか, 日本流体力学会の竜門賞を受賞した。 The atmospheres of terrestrial planets have common features, namely, they have a solid surface at the bottom and they are thin compared with radius of solid part. However, structures of the general circulation differ significantly in each of terrestrial planets. Understanding physical mechanisms is one of the most interesting and important topics. So far, dynamical processes have been elucidated by performing simulations of those planetary atmospheres by using GCMs with a common dynamical core of AFES (Atmospheric GCM For the Earth Simulator, GCM : General Circulation Model). This fiscal year, data assimilation system has been newly developed to make use of "Akatsuki" Venus observations. Test data assimilation are performed with observations by Venus Express, and the results show that system works well. Three papers have been published and three invited talk have been given. At the same time, gravity wave radiation in terrestrial planets have been also investigated. One paper has been published and prize from the Japan Society of Fluid Mechanics has been given.
