2017年度は, 引き続き谷口松軒『魁本大字類苑』の語彙・表記の全貌を明らかにするために, 語彙データベースを完成させることに力を傾けた。2016年度までに約88%の入力が完了したが, 2017年度に入力は100%完成したことになる。
その結果, のべ語数で55065語, 異なり語数で26435語の規模となった。ただし, 本資料は, 単語レベルのみならず, 句レベルでも見出し語として立っているため, それをさらに短単位に区切ったデータを示すにはもう少し時間が必要となる。2016年度の報告で記したように, 『魁本大字類苑』の白話語彙に付された日本語に, (1)方言の利用, (2)江戸期までの外来語の使用例, (3)俗語と白話語彙の豊富な対応例, といった特徴を指摘したが, 漢語を観察の中心にすえると, 漢語の出典は中国古典にあるものの, 日本側の文献で活発に使われるようになるのが, 近代以降になる例が発見できる。一例を挙げれば, life, livelihoodなどの訳語としてどのような語が用いられたのかをという視点で考察を加えた「生活」である。現代語の「生活(セイカツ)」は, 近代以前に日常語となっていたとは考えられず, 本資料の記載では, 「セイカツ」に関連する和語から例を求めてみると「クチスギ : 餬, 餬口, 生活。クラシテヰル : 挙火, 生活, 衣食。スギワイ・スギハヒ : 生業, 産業, 営生, 為生, 過活, 活計, 養口。スギハヒノモト : 資產。スギハヒヲカセグ : 赶過活 : ナリハヒ : 活業, 活計, 生計, 営生。ヨワタリ : 生活。ヨワタリゴト : 生計, 活計。ヨワタリノワザ : 営業。」のような関係があった。すなわち, 「セイカツ」は「世渡り」のように, 生きて行くためのてだて, 生きるすべ, として用いられ, 現在のような「学生生活」「生活環境」のような用法はまだ発達していないことが明らかになった。近代の日常用語として「生活」が用いられるようになるのは, 20世紀初頭で, それ以前は「活計」が「生計」の意味領域をカバーする用法を持ち, 広く使われていたが, 「生活」の使用範囲は狭かったと考えられる。このように, 近代の準備期間に当る幕末明治初期の文献から得られるテーマは豊富であり, そのことを知るためにも本資料の語彙データ作成は有効であったと考えられる。
こうした本資料の辞書としての位置づけは, 沖森卓也・木村義之ほか編(2017, おうふう)『図説 近代日本の辞書』に「専門辞書」の項で概説し, 個別辞書の解題を行った。また, 「生活」に関する考察は, 沖森卓也編(2018予定, 三省堂)『歴史言語学の射程』に「近代用語としての「生活」とその周辺」としてまとめた。
At the year of 2017, I consequently constructed the terminology database of ‘Kaihon Daijiruien' (魁本大字類苑) edited by Taniguchi Shōken (谷口松軒). Until the year of 2016, I had finished inputting about 88% of the whole data, and until the year of 2017, I completely finished the task of constructing the database. The database includes 55,065 words as a whole, and 26,435 words as different terms.
I already pointed out in my report of 2016 that we could find these unique data in ‘Kaihon Daijiruien' : 1) Dialectical terms, 2) Loanwords that were used until the Edo period, 3) Colloquial Chinese terms with Japanese clarification. As for Chinese terms, ‘Kaihon Daijiruien' proves that some Chinese terms started to appear frequently in Japanese books after the modern period, not in the Edo period.
For example, let's see the term 「seikatsu (生活)」. In the modern period, this term normally means "life, livelihood". However, according to ‘Kaihon Daijiruien', it was not used as a daily term to indicate 「生活」. At this point, 「生活」 mainly referred to a method of living, to an action to make a living, unlike the modern period. Searching similar terms to the modern usage of 「生活」, we can find 「クチスギ」 「クラシテヰル」 「スギハヒ」 「ナリハヒ」 「ヨワタリ」 etc. as Japanese originated terms. Assuming from this data, the modern usage of 「生活」, such as 「gakusei seikatsu (学生生活)」 「seikatsu kankyō (生活環境)」, has not emerged in this period. The modern usage of 「生活」 appeared at the beginning of 20th century, and until then, the Chinese term 「kakkei (活計)」 had been used instead. In this way, ‘Kaihon Daijiruien' shows us various themes when researching the terminology from the end of the Edo era to the beginning of the Meiji era, which we can call the dawn of the modern period. From this point of view, the database of ‘Kaihon Daijiruien' would be very helpful in the future research.
As for ‘Kaihon Daijiruien', I clarified it as a historical data resource in the following literature : 沖森卓也・木村義之ほか編(2017, おうふう)『図説 近代日本の辞書』(「専門辞書」).
