• Note (General): type:text; 近年, 電波と光波の中間の周波数帯の電磁波(テラヘルツ波)を室温発振可能なデバイスが国内外で盛んに研究されている。本研究では, そのような技術を実験室外で実用展開するために, 送受信器を高指向性ビームフォーマと集積化し, 空間選択性と高感度を両立したホモダイン検波を行うためのプラットフォームを作製した。具体的には, 周波数掃引に伴うビーム走査によってアダプティブに伝送指向性を変えながら, 受信信号と発振信号の一部とをミキシングできる仕組みを微小導波管系上で実現した。 まず電磁界シミュレーションを用いて, 発振器出力をインピーダンス整合された伝送線路上に導く構造を数値的に最適設計した。また, 周囲空間中との実効屈折率差に基づいて指向性を形成する箇所については, ビーム指向性と帯域幅に関するトレードオフの下で伝送損失を最小化するよう, 形状および放射効率に関しての最適化を行った。以上の受動的な構造部分を試作して伝送特性の評価を行ったところ, 数値シミュレーションとよく整合するビーム放射パターンを確認した。伝送線路の終端部にはショットキーバリアダイオードを受信器として組み込むことが可能であり, ビームフォーマによって可逆的に受信された信号が発振器出力の一部と重ね合わさるようにして非線形検波することで, ホモダイン検波により低周波成分を抽出することができる。 今後は, テラヘルツ帯の発振器として, 共鳴トンネルダイオードあるいは周波数逓倍回路を接続することとし, 送信信号にkHz~MHz 程度の正弦変調を施すことで微弱な受信信号をロックイン計測により高感度に検出できるようにし, レーダー計測やテラビット級無線通信への応用可能性を具体的に提示することを目指す。 Recently, room temperature oscillators at the terahertz band located between the conventional radio and light regions have been studied intensively. To deploy the terahertz technology to the real world applications, this study aims to develop a high-gain beamformer incorporating an oscillator and detector for homodyne detection enabling high sensitivity and spatial selectively, Simultaneous implementation of homodyne detection and beamsteering based on frequency sweep has been attained on a tiny waveguide-based structure. We firstly optimized the structure numerically so that the output from an oscillator is guided to a matched waveguide. The beamforming mechanism is based on the difference of the effective refractive index between the structure and the free-space. The shape and the radiation efficiency have been optimized to minimize the transmission losses under the tradeoff between the beam directivity and the system bandwidth. We prototyped and characterized the structure, and confirmed that the radiation pattern shows reasonable agreement with the numerical calculation. At the terminal of the waveguide, a Schottky Barrier Diode can be incorporated as a receiver. It enables homodyne detection by combining the incoming waves received by the beamformer and the direct output from the local oscillator. As a next step, we plan to connect a Resonant Tunneling Diode or a frequency multiplier chain as an oscillator to the beamformer. By implementing highly sensitive lock-in detection by incorporating a kHz-MHz modulation, we aim to demonstrate the proof of concept of terahertz radar and/or terabit scale high speed wireless communications.
